Thoughtful spaces,
built with intention
Verso Spaces has been designing interiors across Kuala Lumpur since 2013 — one considered project at a time.
Back to HomeA studio shaped by precision and patience
Verso Spaces was founded in Kuala Lumpur in 2013 by Mei Lin Tan, a designer who had spent her early career working with architectural firms in Singapore and London before returning to Malaysia with a clear idea of what she wanted to build: a practice where every design decision is documented, justified, and made with the client's actual life in mind.
The name references the verso — the reverse side of a page — the part that holds the structure and substance behind what you see on the surface. It is a quiet reminder that good design depends on what happens beneath the visible finish.
Over the years the studio has completed more than 230 projects across Bukit Damansara, Mont Kiara, Bangsar, and the surrounding KL neighbourhoods. The team is small by design. We work with a limited number of clients at any given time so that each project receives the attention it deserves.
Our services span residential homes, corporate offices, and retail interiors. We approach each category with the same structured process: a spatial analysis at the start, carefully selected materials and finishes, and detailed documentation that any qualified contractor can follow.
Our Mission
To shape spaces that genuinely fit the people who use them — through careful observation, clear communication, and design that earns its place over time rather than arriving with noise.
Our Values
- Clarity over decoration. We explain every recommendation we make.
- Pace that respects the client. No artificial urgency, no pressure to decide quickly.
- Transparent process. Every cost, every revision, every supplier documented openly.
- Local knowledge. We know the KL materials market and work with trusted local suppliers.

How we keep quality consistent
A structured process is what separates a pleasing result from a reliable one.
Written Design Brief
Every engagement begins with a documented brief that captures the client's spatial needs, lifestyle considerations, and aesthetic preferences — in writing, not assumptions.
Vetted Contractor Network
We only introduce contractors we have worked with before and whose craftsmanship has been observed on-site. New contractors are assessed before any client engagement.
Structured Revision Process
Design revisions are handled in clearly defined phases — not open-ended back-and-forth. This keeps the project moving without losing the ability to adjust direction when needed.
Client Data Privacy
Project data, property details, and personal information are handled with full discretion. We do not share client information with third parties without explicit permission.
Material Specification Standards
All materials and finishes are specified with supplier codes, sample references, and installation notes — so contractors can procure and install correctly without interpretation gaps.
Regular Progress Updates
Clients receive project status updates at each key milestone. No silent periods. If something changes on-site, you hear about it promptly and with a clear explanation of what it means.
Interior design in Kuala Lumpur requires local fluency
Designing an interior in Kuala Lumpur involves a set of considerations that are specific to the city: the high humidity that affects material choices, the prevalence of high-rise residential units with particular structural constraints, the local supply chain for furniture and finishes, and a contractor market that rewards relationship and communication skills as much as technical know-how.
Verso Spaces has operated within this context since 2013. Our network spans reputable material suppliers along Jalan Ipoh and the KL Design Week exhibitors, fabricators in Shah Alam and Subang Jaya, and a small group of experienced general contractors who understand what our documentation format means in practice.
For clients in Bukit Damansara, Bangsar, Mont Kiara, Damansara Heights, and the surrounding corridors, we offer design services that take these local realities into account from the very first conversation — rather than arriving with a foreign aesthetic that does not quite fit the conditions of Malaysian living.
